Mr. Dusty Thune

About Me: My name is Dusty Thune and I am the Special Education Work-Based Learning Coordinator at Open World Learning and Humboldt High School!

My background includes teaching K-21 Special Education students, with 19+ years of experience at Bridge View and Focus Beyond where I had the opportunity to help my students find careers that were not only fulfilling, but gave them a reason to shine. While at Focus Beyond, my responsibilities included teaching skills related to self-advocacy, life skills, job/work readiness, and recreation and leisure. As a teacher and case manager, my responsibilities also included: writing and developing adapted curriculum for students with special needs; submitting regular reports on attendance, academic achievement, and professional development; and requisitioning materials, equipment, supplies and transportation for my special education classes. In this position I demonstrated the ability to adapt to a variety of environments, utilize assistive technology to help my students reach their goals, and wrote curriculum to meet the needs of my students.

Experience outside of the classroom includes work with the community non-profit organization The Highland Friendship Club which requires meeting and working with various organizations, volunteers, parents, and community members to set up and advocate for partnerships that benefit people with a variety of physical, emotional, psychological and cognitive needs.

In addition, I also worked for an SPPS program called St. Paul Connections where I helped students learn more about careers that may interest them in the future.
