Occupational Therapist

  • Ms Gordon

Hi! I am Nikki Gordon, occupational therapist at The Heights Community School.  This is my 9th year at The Heights Community School!  I work full time at this school with students in ECSE/prek through 5th grade.  I am starting my 17th year in SPPS and I have worked in many different schools throughout the district.

I attended the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, receiving my Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy.  Prior to working in St. Paul, I worked in a private therapy clinic for 10 years focusing on treatment of sensory processing disorders.

In the school setting, OT is a related service, which means that we support students academic needs and collaborate with the team to help our students succeed.  I work with a wide variety of students who need to develop visual motor skills and sensory processing skills, both very important for success in school.  I work with students in their classroom and in groups out of the classroom co-teaching some groups with social worker and special education teachers.  I use Handwriting without Tears, yoga, Zones of Regulation, music, as well as many other fine motor and sensory processing strategies to help students grow and develop.  I also love to use assistive technology to help students develop their writing skills.  Our school also has a sensory room that I have developed for students to use, if needed, for calming. I also help to lead a yoga group for students and am working on a lending library for teachers to try fine motor and sensory tools with students in their classrooms.

The easiest way to contact me is via email if you have any questions or concerns (nikki.gordon@spps.org).  Check out the links below for more information about occupational therapy in school.
