Hello!

My name is Kia Thao. I am a Licensed School Counselor for the Academy of Finance (AOF). I work with all AOF students in 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grade. I am really excited to be back at Como Park Senior High School! I graduated from Como Park in 2002, then went on to get my Bachelor of Arts from St. Olaf College. There, I majored in Political Science and Women's Studies. After graduation, I worked for a college access program at St. Olaf College called TRIO Upward Bound for eight years before going back to school for my Master's in School Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.

I am here to assist AOF students in their academic and personal/emotional growth during high school, and to provide students with post secondary and career options. I look forward to offering support and collaborating with administrators, parents/guardians, teachers, and students to achieve this goal. I will be meeting with students individually and in small groups, conducting classroom lessons, and meeting with parents and families.

Any AOF student can request to meet with me or they can be referred by a teacher, administrator, or parent. I encourage you to reach out if you have concerns regarding your student or would like to meet with me about your student. I am here to help students achieve their social/emotional and academic goals, as well as provide support for parents/guardians and teachers.
