Hello Jie Ming Families!

My name is Barb Hvidhyld and I LOVE teaching reading and writing because kids LOVE reading and writing! I am currently the English WINN teacher (What I Need Now and Next). This is my 2nd year as Jie Ming's English WINN teacher. I work with small groups of students in the 2nd and 3rd grades, meeting them at their reading and writing level.

This is my 8th year at Jie Ming Mandarin Immersion Academy and my 26th year with SPPS. I grew up in the Midway neighborhood of St. Paul and received my Bachelor's Degree from the University of St. Catherine and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from St. Cloud University. I have taught second through fifth grades but am excited to be able to work with small groups to better meet students' needs in English reading and writing. 

I currently live in Roseville with my husband. We enjoy biking, hiking, fishing, and almost anything outside. We have four adult children living nearby and still keep us busy! 

This year I hope to inspire, encourage, and develop your child's love of learning. I want this year to be a happy and successful one for your child. My goal is to work with students to build a safe community for learning through mistakes and perseverance.
