Dear second grade families,

Ni Hao! 你好！

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year at Jie Ming Mandarin Immersion Academy. My name is Ping Chen. You can call me Chen Laoshi, which means Ms. Chen in Chinese. I’m so excited to be your child’s second grade teacher this year. I came to Jie Ming in 2013 and this is my 11th year at this great school! 

I came from Shanghai and graduated from Shanghai Normal University with my degree in English. I also received my Master's Degree in English from Shanghai International Studies University. Before I came to Minnesota in 2007, I had been teaching for 16 years in China. I have a passion for teaching and I feel very lucky to be in a career that I love and that inspires me daily. Currently, I hold a K-6 MN teaching license. I love flowers and am therefore fond of growing them. But I am no gardener at all. I also enjoy hiking and traveling with my husband and son. This summer the most exciting thing is that I was able to go back to China to see my parents after four years.

Thank you for sharing your child with me! Their enthusiasm and energy offer great challenges and I look forward to my year with them and with you too!
