Ms. Hjelmgren began teaching at Bruce Vento Elementary School in 2014. She has a B.A. in Elementary Education and Social Studies (5-8) from Bemidji State University. Ms. Hjelmgren also has an M.A. degree in Reading Instruction from Concordia University, St. Paul. She has taught all grades K-6, with most of her time and experience in second grade. 

Ms. Hjelmgren enjoys reading, gardening, and cooking in her free time. However, spending time with her family is the most important thing to her! Her family loves to spend time in Beaver Bay, MN every summer. Reading is a passion for Ms. Hjelmgren and she enjoys teaching reading to all of her classes and to her grandchildren.

Ms. Hjelmgren lives in Oakdale, MN. with her husband. Her mom is 91years old and still maintains her own home. Ms. Hjelmgren is married with two grown children and three grandchildren. Her daughter is married and has two children. They live in Kenosha, WI. Her son is married and they have one child and one due in February. They live in Lino Lakes, MN.

Bruce Vento is a very special school to her, because she came here as a 2^nd grade teacher, which she loved! When the opportunity arose for her to become the Literacy Coach, it was a great fit for her. However, after two years as a literacy Coach, she decided to return to second grade as a classroom teacher. Teaching has always been her passion, so she feels very fortunate to be able to share her love of teaching at Bruce F. Vento Elementary School.

Ms. Hjelmgren's class has adopted Bemidji State University...Go Beavers!
