Ms. Butzlaff

Welcome Fifth Grade Scholars and Families!

Welcome to 5th grade, my name is Hannah Butzlaff and I'm very excited to get to know each of you this year. This is my 3rd year at John A. Johnson and my 4th year teaching.

I attended North Dakota State University for my undergraduate and received my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Development and Family Sciences. I also went to Valley City State University where I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I am licensed for grades 1-6.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family including my sister Mrs. Zurbey. I also have played soccer since I was 5 years old and now continue to play and coach. When I am relaxing at home, I like to try new recipes in the kitchen, take my dog Wally for a walk, or read a book. I try to travel as much as I can, and hope to one day travel to each state in the USA.

Working at JAJ is wonderful because of all the people I get to work with each day. The staff, students, families and community create a family that wants everyone to try their best each day. JAJ allows me to help students create connections to their daily lives by using Areas of Study time to focus on matters such as money, our planet, and even history. This allows us to take many field trips throughout the year to see the learning live and in action. During this year we will get the chance to explore many different parts of our curriculum to allow students to take control of their learning.
