May 29, 2020 FIT Update:
As a school community, we have been navigating the unexpected challenges of a pandemic. I expect that we have all been experiencing feelings of frustration, isolation, loneliness, and maybe even sadness, from time to time.
Now, we wrestle with the painful reality of the death of another African American man, George Floyd, at the hands of police. It is difficult to find the words to explain this to students, especially when we don’t have daily personal connections where we can create spaces to have these important conversations. Below are some resource you may find helpful.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We stand together to support our students, staff and community to heal together even as we continue to demand justice.
Our school counselor will be hosting Google Meet sessions for students who would like to connect with their classmates. These sessions are being offered

We understand that sometimes it's hard to engage students in academics while being at home. We would like to give you some ideas to help, for example, are you having trouble getting your student to read? Maybe start a book club with some classmates or read to a younger sibling or parent. You could try playing a math game with a deck of playing cards or dominos. All of this is fun and students are still learning. Below are some additional links to help with distance learning:As always, if you are finding things difficult or need help from our staff please feel free to reach out to us by calling 612-358-4187. -

This week we want to focus on self-care for families as well as social emotional learning. During these stressful times it's important to stop and take care of ourselves and each other. While we encourage you to check out some of the resources below, here are just a couple of simple tips to get you on your way: call a friend, take a walk, listen to music, find a place to spend some time for yourself, read, exercise.Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions.Self-Care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress.Resources:Have ideas or topics you would like us to include?
