In the fall of 2019, Mr. Carlson began working at Dayton's Bluff Elementary after having served SPPS for 10 years at both the elementary and secondary levels. He earned his Masters degree in Social Work with a clinical emphasis from Augsburg University in 2008 but first earned his Bachelors degree in Theatre with a performance emphasis from the Univeristy of Minnesota, Twin Cities! Professionally, Mr. Carlson is passionate about trauma informed practices and has had the opportunity to present around the state of MN and around the country at conferences and schools about how to create safe, predictable, trauma-informed school environments.

When Mr. Carlson is not at Dayton's Bluff, he enjoys trail running, martial arts training, writing and performing spoken word poetry, and traveling. He has been fortunate to travel many places around the world, including being a foreign exchange student in Germany for a year in high school, but his favorite trip was a three-week adventure in Australia!

Mr. Carlson grew up in South Dakota, but now lives near White Bear Lake just north east of St. Paul with his wife, three children, and their dog, Kingsley. As a family, they like to go camping, hiking, and go on road trips in the summertime.

New adventures are always exciting and that is exactly how Mr. Carlson is feeling about coming to Dayton's Bluff. He is optimistic about the year and is enjoying meeting the students and their families!
