In June 2012, Jennifer Mailee Lor, incoming OWL senior, placed first in the nation at the National History Day Competition in Washington, DC with her documentary film on the Highlander Folk School – a social justice leadership training school that trained many of the leaders of the Civil Rights movement.  This award comes with a $5000 cash prize from the History Channel. 

This year, Jennifer tied the Minnesota state record by qualifying for the national competition for the 4th consecutive year. In 2010, Jennifer and Norma Romero-Rodriguez placed 2nd in the nation with a documentary about Gandhi’s philosophy of social change through non-violent resistance.
