Please join us in welcoming Dr. Kenneth O. Turner Jr. as your school’s new principal beginning in the 2020-21 school year.

As a person born and raised in the Rondo area of Saint Paul, Dr. Turner brings a wealth of experience in helping all students feel represented and accepted for who they are. He has served as an educator for 27 years and worked in Saint Paul Public Schools (SPPS) for the past 6 years as a teacher, leader, administrator, and most recently, as assistant principal for American Indian Magnet School. Dr. Turner understands the importance of collaborating with staff and families and embracing the unique gifts that each student brings. 

Throughout his career, Dr. Turner has created schoolwide systems to improve student achievement and worked tirelessly using data to narrow the achievement gap. Dr. Turner works to engage and share information with families to help them make the best academic decisions for their child. He highly values family engagement and has built relationships between students and staff to create a positive school culture.

Dr. Turner looks forward to partnering with families, students, staff and the community to continue the great work at Benjamin E. Mays IB World School.

Dr. Turner has excellent academic qualifications with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Concordia University, a Master of Education degree in teaching and learning from St. Mary’s University – Twin Cities, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Administration from Minnesota State University Mankato.
