What's New in the Library?
Calling all artists in 3rd-5th grade! You're invited to design a bookmark based on a Maud Hart Lovelace nominee book and submit it in the St. Paul Public Library's contest. 3 winners will receive a $40 gift card to the Red Balloon Bookstore or Wet Paint and have their bookmarks distributed throughout the St. Paul library system. Contest forms can be found at your nearest library or at http://www.sppl.org/kidvote and must be submitted by March 15th. Haven't read any Maud Hart Lovelace books yet? Our library has all of them available for you to check out!

About the Library
Our reading areaThe Rondo Educational Center Library serves more than 2,000 students and staff at Benjamin E. Mays International Magnet School and Capitol Hill Gifted and Talented Magnet School. We have over 46,000 books, with everything from early readers to young adult novels, fantasy to realistic fiction, nonfiction, and even magazines.
Library Policies
Circulation Information:
- Kindergarteners and first graders may check out one book.
- Second and third graders may check out one or two books, based on teacher requirements.
- Fourth and fifth graders may check out up to two books.
Books are checked out for two week periods and can be renewed when needed. If books are overdue or lost, students will not be able to check out any more books until the books are returned or the fines are paid.
Overdue Materials:
Overdue notices will be sent home periodically and at teachers' request. Watch for these slips in Wednesday Packets.
Fine Policy (Lost/Damaged Books):
If a book is damaged or lost, please contact Ms. Vogel. I will assess the damage and if a replacement fine is needed, I will send a note home. The library collects these fines to replace books with library bound copies which hold up much better than items purchased at local retailers. The library only accepts cash for lost book fines. If you find your lost book after having paid for it, I will refund your money, as long as the item hasn't been reordered. Please do not try to repair the book yourself. We appreciate your good intentions, but our volunteers have been specially trained in book repair to make our books last as long as possible.
Library Staff
Our "Library Lady," Ms. Vogel, came to the Rondo Educational Center Library in September of 2012, and is loving every minute of working here. She says there's never a boring moment in the library! As a kid, she loved reading so much that she would do her chores while reading and her parents had to ban books at the dinner table. She hopes to inspire every student to love books as much as she does.

What Should I Read Next?: Did you just finish a great book and want to read another one like it? This is the site for you. Just type in the title or author and their book engine will provide a list of suggestions of great books to read next.
Recommended Reading Lists: Complied by school librarians in Texas and judged by students like you, these reading lists are a great place to find suggestions for books. The lists are divided by grade level and include a wide range of topics, including both fiction and nonfiction stories.
Scholastic Book Wizard: Searching by reading level and similiar book just got easier-- the Book Wizard can magic up just the right book for you!

Ebooks
PebbleGo: PebbleGo has nonfiction articles on animals, biographies, earth & space, and social studies. Great for research and independent reading.
St. Paul Public Library Ebooks: Download ebooks with your SPPL library card to read on your computer, tablet, phone, or ereader. Check them out like any other book, but don't wait to read them -- ebooks automatically return to the library after 2 weeks.
TumbleBook Library: A collection of animated, talking picture books, TumbleBook Library will read the story out loud and highlight the text as you read. It also has nonfiction books, books in Spanish and French, educational videos, and extras such as quizzes and games.
TumbleBook Cloud Jr.: For 3rd-6th graders, TumbleBook Cloud Jr. includes longer chapter ebooks, nonfiction ebooks in all subjects, audio books, graphic novels, educational videos, and extras such as quizzes and games.
WeGiveBooks.org: Read books with amazing pictures. New books are added every week. A free registration is required.
MackinVIA: Check out ebooks from our very own ebook database using your student ID number and password. Read them on the computer or download them to your favorite device.

Children's Poetry Archive: Search this archive by theme, poet, or poetic form for fantastic poems for kids, all of which are read aloud by their authors.
