Welcome to Science

  • Hello Mays Scientists & Families,

My name is Cece Watkins, and I am excited to work with all of your young scientists this year as we grow and learn together.

Science at Benjamin E. Mays is hands and minds on. Students learn through inquiry, experimenting, and engaging in engineering challenges. My mission is to inspire students to see themselves as scientists, and to see science and engineering as tools to connect more deeply with the world and ultimately change it for the better.

I believe in an open door policy. If not for COVID, families would be welcome in my room to see our young scientists at work. If you were to visit, you might see students experimenting with water tension, connecting circuits, or observing the red wiggler worms that help decompose our food waste. We explore life science, earth science, physical science and engineering while also integrating technology and literacy to boost student's overall success at Mays. If you have any questions about Science at Mays, don't hesitate to reach out to me at cecelia.watkins@spps.org.
