Mr. Oscar Del Sébastien
Hello! My name is Oscar Del Sébastien and I am the Art Specialist at Maxfield Elementary. I graduated from Hamline University with a Masters of Art in Teaching with an emphasis on Race, Ethnicity, and Equity in Education, and Bachelor’s Degrees from the University of Vermont in English and Spanish Literature, and Studio Art and Photography. I hold Minnesota licenses in K-12 Visual Arts and K-12 World Language (Spanish).
Outside of school, I enjoy reading and creative writing, playing and composing music, gardening and other outdoor activities, as well as Native American ceremonies, Men's Group, and Big Drum.
I believe that one of the most important parts of being a teacher is developing strong, lasting relationships with students, parents, staff members, and the community at large. Through positive relationships, teachers can work together as a team to meet individual student needs as well as provide all students with a strong and robust education. One of my goals is to encourage students to think positively about who they are and what they are capable of accomplishing, and to see the world through a wider lens.
