Oscar Del Sébastien - Art Specialist

    Ya'ateh (Apache) Hello!

My name is Oscar Del Sébastien. I am a Mexican-American (Apache/Comanche) from Texas. My spirit name is Ya'den dee (That's Just The Way It Is). I am Road Runner Clan.

I am an Art Specialist at American Indian Magnet School.  I graduated from Hamline University with a Masters of Art in Teaching with an emphasis on Race, Ethnicity, and Equity in Education.  I also hold undergraduate degrees from the University of Vermont in Spanish Literature & Culture, English Literature, and Studio Art & Photography.  I hold Minnesota licenses in K-12 Visual Arts and K-12 World Language (Spanish).

Outside of school, I enjoy reading and creative writing, playing and composing music, gardening and other outdoor activities, as well as Native American ceremonies, Men's Group, and Big Drum. I am also learning the L/Dakota language and ways.

I believe that one of the most important parts of being a teacher is developing strong, lasting relationships with students, parents, staff members, and the community at large.  Through positive relationships, teachers can work together as a team to meet individual student needs as well as provide all students with a strong and robust education. One of my goals is to encourage students to think positively about who they are and what they are capable of accomplishing, and to see the world through a wider lens.

I enjoy having all of your wonderful students! Feel free to reach out to me by email at any time. Thank you for your support!
