    Program Youth Experience Survey

The youth experience survey is given to youth who participate in flipside more than 5 days within one session/semester. Youth who participate all year, would likely complete the same survey twice.  Their answers on this survey help us assess the quality and program outcomes that we strive to reach for participants.

    Program Parent Survey
Parents/guardians of Flipside participants are invited to provide feedback through a parent survey after each session/semester. Survey answers help us assess the quality and program outcomes that we strive to reach for participants.

    Research on high quality programs

All young people need a variety of experiences to develop to their full potential. All youth need an array of experiences to reduce risk-taking and promote both current well-being and successful transition into adulthood." -Eccles, J., & Gootman, J.A.. (Eds.). (2002). Community programs to promote youth development.

"A recent study has found that regular participation in high-quality afterschool programs is linked to positive outcomes for children and youth." - Vandell, Deborah Lowe, Ph.D., Study of Promising Afterschool Programs, 2007.

The Flipside is continually working on implementing high quality programs based on national research and best practices.  Research has identified the following key features as essential to quality programs.

    • Physically, psychologically and emotionally safe
    • Appropriate structure
    • Supportive relationships
    • Opportunities to belong
    • Positive social norms
    • Support for a sense that youth matter
    • Opportunities for skill building
    • Collaboration with family, school and community
