Aquatics Employment

Classes are available for everyone, from children 6 months old all the way to adults. We also offer water exercise classes and a few other miscellaneous aquatics programs.

Lifeguard Job Description

  • The lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons by supervising the pool and pool area, preventing accidents, and responding to emergencies.  The lifeguard will enforce pool and safety rules and Community Education policies to maintain a safe environment and customer satisfaction.  The lifeguard will oversee multiple activities including swim lessons, water exercise classes, open swim, and pool rentals.

     

    Required Qualifications:

    • Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED
    • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time and maintain constant patron surveillance
    • Ability to recognize and respond effectively in emergencies.
    • Ability to communicate professionally with people of all ages
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment test of lifeguarding skills and knowledge

Swim Instructor Job Description

  • The swim instructor is responsible for teaching swim lessons to swimmers between the ages of 6 months to adults and seniors according to Community Education guidelines and American Red Cross guidelines.  Classes include parent and child classes, American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim classes, tween/teen classes, and adult instructional classes.  The swim instructor will enforce pool and safety rules and Community Education policies to maintain a safe environment and customer satisfaction.

     

    Required Qualifications:

    • Certified as a Swim Instructor by St. Paul Community Education or current certification as an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or other similar certification
    • American Red Cross Level 4 swimming skills
    • Provide swim instruction to students of all ages, abilities, and skill levels
    • Maintain constant supervision of students and assist students when necessary
    • Communicate professionally with people of all ages
    • Patient, energetic, and positive attitude

Pool Coordinator Job Description

  • The pool coordinator is responsible for opening and closing the pool facilities and professionally managing and maintaining control of the aquatics facility and programming.  The pool coordinator will supervise and direct on-duty aquatics staff and is responsible for ensuring the safety of facility patrons and staff by preventing and responding to emergencies.  In addition, the pool coordinator may also need to lifeguard various aquatic activities and instruct swim lessons.

     

    Required Qualifications: 

    • 18 years of age or older
    • Current certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding
    • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time and maintain constant patron surveillance
    • Ability to recognize and respond effectively in emergencies
    • Ability to communicate professionally with people of all ages
    • Ability to pass a pre-employment test of lifeguarding skills and knowledge
    • Current certification as a Community Education Tier II Instructor, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, or similar certification
    • Possess Community Education Level 5 swimming skills or higher
    • Provide swim instruction to students of all ages, abilities, and skill levels
    • Maintain constant supervision of students and assist students when necessary
    • Patient, energetic, and positive attitude
    • Advanced decision making skills
