Parents and staff at Mays CAFE

Parent and Community Involvement

  • Parents, school staff and community members work closely together to manage our school. Parents are also welcome to become involved at any level of school activity, such as; visiting your child’s classroom, participating in school field trips, tutoring students, etc. Volunteerism is strongly encouraged. It takes a village to educate a child!

We are lucky to have an Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) site in our building. Benjamin E. Mays and Rondo ECFE are joining forces to engage families in early childhood education. ECFE offers learning experiences for children birth to five, and opportunities for parents to network and grow their community.

Also located in our building, Community Education. Community Education offers enrichment classes for students and adults alike. Their catalogue is mailed to homes in St. Paul during the year. We also send home flyers highlighting afterschool program options for our students through Community Education in the Rondo building.

Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood (SPPN) Partner School

The Saint Paul Promise Neighborhood (SPPN) uses education as a tool to end multi-generational poverty. SPPN is committed to addressing tough issues facing our community, including multi-generational poverty, the education opportunity gap, and other factors that influence a child's academic outcomes. Together with families, SPPN and its partners are focused on achieving the following results:

    • Children enter kindergarten ready to succeed in school
    • Students are proficient in core academic subjects
    • Students attend stable schools
    • Families and community members support learning in SPPN Partner Schools such as Benjamin E. Mays IB World School
    • Families live in stable communities
    • Children are healthy
    • Parents and SPPN Partners have the power to influence public decisions that impact their lives

SPPN partners with more than 80 organizations to create an effective continuum of academic and family wraparound supports.
