Welcome to First Grade!

My name is Kaitlynn Mackie and I am so happy to be teaching first grade!! This is my 4th year with St. Paul Public Schools. I completed my teaching degree and Masters of Teaching through the St. Paul Public Schools Urban Teacher in Residency program with the University of St. Thomas. My teaching residency was completed at Benjamin E. Mays World IB School. My first year of teaching, I taught special education before transitioning into first grade. Prior to my teaching career, I worked in children's hospitals as a child life specialist. I spent about 10 years preparing children for medical procedures and teaching coping strategies.  I had the opportunity to bring this role into schools helping with social emotional learning, which sparked my passion for the classroom. I believe all kids can make great growth when provided with a safe environment and taught all the necessary skills to be in the right mindset to learn. In my classroom, we are a community. We build relationships and hold each other to high expectations (academically and socially).

Fun Facts! 

I was born and raised in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I have a love for the water and the outdoors. I enjoy trying to bake. I mostly bake so I can enjoy delicious treats!!  I live with my five-year-old Golden Retriever, Stevie Nicks. I spend a majority of my time playing with my nieces, who are five and two years old.
