    School counselors can support students in many areas, including with academic, social/emotional, and career/future planning concerns. Please contact the counselors with concerns about class schedules, bullying, behavior issues or to discuss personal issues a student may be experiencing.

    Murray School Counseling Mission Statement: 

    The Murray Middle School Counseling Program challenges all students in the building to reach their highest potential and create meaningful goals for high school and beyond. Our school counseling team collaborates with stakeholders and our community to best support our learners. The counseling team addresses academic, social-emotional, and academic areas through individual, group, and classroom meetings with all students. School counselors advocate for students to have equitable access to resources to promote their learning, growth, and social-emotional wellbeing.

Murray students have the skills of valuing diversity, learning about their own level of social-emotional self-awareness, learning about skills of empathy, learning about successful academic skills, and they are prepared for their future. Murray Middle School alums are lifelong learners who seek to continuously improve themselves and the diverse world that they live in. Murray Middle School students embark on a wide variety of world-wide accomplishments and adventures, while making meaningful impacts on the communities in which they live, work, and interact in.

    Career/Postsecondary Planning:

    • Xello is an engaging online program that helps students build their skills, knowledge, and plans to be future, college, and career ready. K-12 SPPS students use Xello to create their Personal Learning Plans (PLPs). Students can navigate Xello through Clever on their iPads.

    • High School: Most students who finish 8th grade at Murray Middle School, go to Como Park Senior High School for 9th grade. We also have about 10-20 students who go to Central High School each year. A small number of students attend non-SPPS schools. Counselors work with 8th graders and families throughout the year to get them ready to choose their high school and register for classes for 9th grade.

    Every Meal

    We are excited to partner with Every Meal to offer a free weekend meal program to all our students. Every Meal is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to fight child hunger through community and school partnerships. They strive to make a difference in children’s lives by focusing on food gaps like weekends, school breaks, and summer when they can’t receive food in school.

    • Registration will be online in fall of 2023 here, paper applications are available through the main office or the counselors 
    • Free for all families
    • No qualifications required
    • Students enrolled in the program will receive a 4-5 pound bag of nutritious, nonperishable food each week
    • Every Meal does not collect information from families; privacy is protected
    • Families may choose to participate in the program anytime throughout the school year
    • Families may choose from a variety of different weekend food bag options
