Mr. Whiting has been teaching in Saint Paul Public Schools since 2003.   For the last 10 years, Frost Lake Elementary  has been his home.   He has taught ESL at nearly every grade level from 2nd-12th grade, but has focused most of his time on 5th grade students.   He has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Winona State University and a Master’s degree in Teaching ESL and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls.

Outside of school, Mr. Whiting spends time reading and listening to podcasts.   He enjoys many outdoor activities such as hiking, bking, swimming, fishing, boating, climbing, and rollerblading.  He also enjoys doing projects around the home.  A recent project involved laying 900 bricks to make a patio with a firepit in the backyard.

He lives in a suburb of St. Paul with his wife of 25 years, 3 children and one grandchild.   He also has two dogs, a rescue dog and a chihuahua.   The family enjoys traveling together and movie nights.   

In the years Mr. Whiting has been at Frost Lake, there have been many challenges.    Mr. Whiting feels that they are a strong staff with strong students, willing to keep fighting so that all students can succeed.   To quote Benjamin Franklin:  “Tell me and I forget.  Teach me and I remember.  Involve me and I learn.”  We’re all in this together.
