  • Course Description

    Health Care Hero is an in-person class. 

    Students in this class work toward meeting the following goals:

    • Build skills for direct care for Nursing Assistant
    • Learn the skills for taking vital signs; blood pressure, weight, pulse
    • Learn about the stages of human development
    • Develop professional communication skills
    • Master basic medical terminology
    • Earn a Northstar Digital Literacy Certificate in Email, Internet and Basic Computer skills
    • Earn a Personal Care Asistant Certificate
    • Earn a CPR Certificate for Adult and Infant First Aid and CPR. 

    Students will be preparing for a certified Nursing Assistant training at the International Institute, American Red Cross or at a local community college program. Students could also move into entry-level office jobs in the healthcare field. 

    Requirements:

    • One of the following reading test scores:
      • ELL Level C, CASAS 225+
      • TABE 11/12 M 442+
    • Able to pass a background test

    Requirements for successful completion of the class:

    1. Attend 80% of classes
    2. Complete all assigned work
    3. Achieve 80% on all online quizzes
