This is Ms./xf. Va. I am the visual arts teacher rau peb cov menyuam. This will be my 2nd year teaching middle school.

In my Beginning Art & Intermediate Art class, we will be exploring the areas of 2D-3D, painting, printmaking, fiber arts, and ceramics. Hmoob arts, crafts and history will be implemented in the units for students to be able to build a connection and learn more about Hmoob arts. I am excited to see the different ideas and creations by the students, and excited for you all to have a view of their work.

Artist in Residence - Teresa Cox

Drawing into Painting

We have Ms. Teresa from COMPAS, who has been working with 2 of our Beginning Art classes. Ms. Teresa is with us until November 30th, 2023.

Students are learning and working on drawing a landscape and eventually moving into painting a landscape.

Just a brief recap for this month.

Students got to learn each other's names through a small activity and learned to navigate in the artroom to locate materials they may potentially need for their artworks.

Our first art project started with NEUROGRAPHIC ART. This project focused on mindfulness, connecting our minds to art.

UPCOMING:

Students will be learning and reviewing ELEMENTS of ART & PRINCIPLES of DESIGN.

A permission form with info will be coming home with students regarding a field trip to Hmong Village. Please look out for that.

Previously - Printmaking: Dual Self Portrait

During the Printmaking unit, students created a dual self-portrait, which uses the their self-portrait in Tim-Burton style and a selfie photo the students took of themselves.

Currently - Business & Art:

Students are currently learning about creating a business and the basic planning for a business. The end goal of the lesson is to have a business plan in place, a business name and a business logo.

Self-Portrait - Tim Burton Style

Students are working on a self-portrait in Tim Burton style. In their self-portraits, students include features such as big heads, big eyes, and long lanky necks. Students are also focusing on CONTRAST and SPACE in their art.
