A note from Principal Lynch

  • "Due to stepping away from the news and social media for a bit, I was late to learning about the killing of Mr. George Floyd at the hands of a police officer on Monday night. While I appreciate social media for many things, the one thing I personally struggle to use it for is a platform for social justice. Since many of my personal friends are of a similar mind to me, my words hold little weight for change, and change is what I strive to achieve.

So where do I hold weight for change? Personally, I have had deep and powerful conversations with my children over the years about white privilege, systemic racism, stereotype threat, and the importance of using our privilege in speaking truth to power- raising them to start out their lives as anti-racist vs coming to it later in life as I have. Where else do I hold weight? Here, with our community. Supporting our students and families, supporting our staff, challenging mindsets, breaking barriers, holding myself and others accountable to our shared beliefs.

If traditional school was in session, we would hold spaces for expressing our anger, sadness, and pain. We would grieve the loss of yet another African American man at the hands of police. Our wounds, still raw, would at least have some comfort in knowing no one is alone. That We Support Each Other is more than just a hashtag.
