    Ronald M. Hubbs, 1908 - 1996
Ronald M. Hubbs was a leader in national business, a "dean" of philanthropy in Minnesota, and a conscientious contributor to the quality of life in the Twin Cities community. He was President and CEO of St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company and, subsequently, The St. Paul Companies for 15 years, served on more than 50 community boards and/or governing bodies, chaired the F.R. Bigelow Foundation from 1974 through 1986, and served as a director and treasurer of The Saint Paul Foundation.

Long a believer in lifelong learning and a champion of individual rights and opportunities, Mr. Hubbs provided the vision, commitment, energy and direction for the creation of many innovative adult literacy programs and for the long-term support of ongoing services, all of which complemented and/or continue to complement adult literacy efforts of the Saint Paul Public Schools.

One of our great blessings is the ability to read.  It brings knowledge, wisdom of the ages, preparation needed to live as a member of the community, and great joy in mentally traversing the abundance of what life offers.
