    Curriculum: Introduction to Child Development

    Course Description:

    This class is designed to introduce learners to the field of child care. Students will learn about the different early childhood settings: schools, family, and centers. They will learn about child development, guidance, nutrition, health and safety. Students will gain hand-on experience volunteering in a Head Start classroom. 

     

    Requirements:

    • CASAS Reading test score of 221+ on Form 185/186
    • CASAS Listening test score of 221+ on Form 55/56
    • Or TABE D Reading test score of 5.0+
    • 12 week commitment
    • Volunteer 3 hours/week in a Head Start classroom
    • Be able to pass a background check to work with children
    • Able to walk/stand for long periods of time
    • Able to lift 30 lbs

     

     

    Next steps and additional career information:

    Upon completion of this course students (if eligible) have the options to move into our advanced Child Development class. The focus of this class is on Early Childhood Education, Accuplacer preparation, computer and work readiness skills.
