St Paul Public Philosophy and Goals of Physical Education

The St Paul Public Philosophy and Goals state that the development of a sound mind and body should be the goal of all students. Physical Education is a means by which that goal may be achieved. It promotes physical, mental, emotional and social growth. It develops self-confidence, self-esteem, positive relationships, sportsmanship, respect for peers and authority, an appreciation for physical fitness, and a pursuit of a lifetime of physical activity and well-being. The student who develops a sound mind and body will benefit from that foundation for years to come.

    Medical Notes

When it is necessary for a student to be excused, a written note from home is required for each day the student is to be excused. With a note from home, the student will still dress out and be given an alternative assignment. A doctor’s note must be presented to the physical education teacher for any period beyond 3 classes in a row. The doctor will be requested to complete an Allowed Activity Checklist (on website under Departments—Health/PE) of appropriate activities that the student may take part in while recovering from the illness or injury. If a student cannot participate in a general physical education program, the student may be assessed for an adapted physical education program to meet the requirements set by the state.

    Locks and Lockers

Locks and lockers are issued and must be used for physical education class.  It is the responsibility of the student to learn his/her combination.  If locks are lost, students should ask a teacher to look on the lost lock board to retrieve it or buy a new one.

Combinations are to be kept confidential.                   Personal locks are not to be used.

Sharing lockers is not permitted at any time.                  There is a $5.00 fee for lost or damaged locks.

    Uniforms

Students wear a uniform for Physical Education.  Uniform Cost is $10.

    Uniform Guidelines:

    • Only the name of the student is allowed on the uniform.
    • Socks and athletic shoes must be worn.
    • Uniforms are taken home every other Friday to be washed and then returned on Monday.
    • Lost or damaged uniforms must be replaced.
