Science Lab with Mr. Haberman

  • Crossroads is a science community!

In our lab space we dedicate our time to building real world science skills and fostering inquiry through exploration.

Students should expect at the beginning of the year to understand how curiosity can assist in the development of the strategies and methods of observation. Science is a full-body experience! We love to move and stay active as a means to place students in the role of real scientists.

Crossroads is exceptionally fortunate to have access to nature through our school forest partnership with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. A short stroll allows students to experience and immerse themselves in an urban forest and wetland habitat. On-site we have two courtyards; a STEM courtyard featuring a small pond and a greenhouse, and a Montessori courtyard featuring garden plots.

Throughout the year, students should expect to develop their sense of discourse and questioning as we increase our complex understanding of the disciplines of science. Typically, students are able to attend field trips to local and regional parks, museums, and community partners.

Lastly, as we wrap up our year, we create and manage in-depth projects that require collaboration, communication and self-reflection. We learn to apply our skills to the context of the needs of our community and the environment.
